Bringing Up Kids... The Quotes

Simply having children does not make mothers (John A. Shedd). Parenthood is not a simple role; you love your kids but most of the time there are conflict within when you are trying to teach or protect them. You mean good but your kids might not think so. As Bette Davis put it best “If you have never been hated by your child, you have never been a parent”. Parenthood is a lot easier to get into than out of (Bruce Lansky), so once we are in, we are in.

For they who are in this role, here are some nice quotes about bringing up your kids (although John Wilmot said “Before I got married I had 6 theories about bringing up kids; now I have 6 kids and no theories):

· In bringing up kids, spend on them half as much money and twice as much time (Author Unknown) because your kids need your presence more than your presents (Jesse Jackson).

· If you want children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders (Abigail Van Buren).
· In spite of the 6,000 manuals on child raising in the bookstores, child raising is still a dark continent and no one really knows anything. You just need a lot of love and luck - and, of course, courage (Bill Cosby, Fatherhood, 1986).
· In spite of the 7,000 books of expert advice, the right way to discipline a child is still a mystery to most fathers and mothers. Only your grandmother and Ghengis Khan know how to do it (Billy Cosby).

Barbara Kingsolver (Animal Dreams) said “It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn’t”. It is always a wonderful thing to witness their growth from time to time, despite of the ups and especially, the downs.

Last very advisable quote from Susan Savannah “If your kids are giving you a headache, follow the directions on the aspirin bottle, especially the part that says "keep away from children."
